supper-hanging-out plays a major role in my daily life for now. (that i’m unemployed and don’t quite have a sense of time. ha) but even when i was working, looking for new supper hangouts was a constant for me and friends. not counting the numerous S11s/kopitiams, it is quite a challenge to find supper places, especially in the west, yes, the west isn’t quite as privileged as the east when it comes to night-eatings.
one of my supper hangouts in the west is this place along west coast road, just opposite the esso petrol station.
just last night, four of us were having our supper eats there, with 2 rounds of drinks and 3 plates of food amongst us.
food-
the maggi goreng ($3) tasted better than some of the maggi gorengs i’ve had at several other places. but the nasigoreng pattaya ($5) wasn’t exactly a wrap, they kinda put the egg on top of the rice instead, but still, the fried rice was a match to other prata shops. not too spicy, and not too dry.
drinks – i had the neslo ice (nescafe milo mix) ($2) and it’s not bad at all, not too sweet, but you could taste both the milo with a tinge of coffee in it. but don’t take my word for it, i haven’t tried neslo at that many places.
anyway, point is.. what happened last night was, when we asked for the bill, the guy told us it was $31, so we took his word and paid, but as we were waiting for the change, we tried to calculate how much it was per head. this was when we realised that it wasn’t right that 7 drinks and 3 plates of food would come up to $31. we re-calculated (by now we had already taken the change), and it only came up to $21. so we were being overcharged by a whole $10. we waved for the guy and asked him to recalculate again, and he came back with a $10 change to give back to us, citing that his boss miscalculate and apologised. (thinking back, the last time we were there for prata, i think we were overcharged too, i remembered commenting that the place was quite expensive, but looking through the menu yesterday, i think there was yet another calculation mistake.)
i am not dissing the place, the food is not bad, it’s open-air sitting style by the roadside (good for smokers), with a good number of seating available, and parking there isn’t that much of a problem, but if anyone who drops by this place for food, do take note when you pay. they seem to tend to overcharge their customers (or maybe just us!).
